The newly opened P3 million Cattle Production, Breeding, and Training Center in Santa Maria, Isabela is targeted to benefit some 871 cattle raisers.
Agriculture Sec. William Dar and Santa Maria Mayor Hilario Pagauitan inaugurated the center on December 12, 2019.
The facility will help raise and sustain the population of local cattle by upgrading the current cattle raising management system through improved cattle genetics.
Technicians in the area will also be trained on artificial insemination (AI).
This support aims to make Santa Maria a major cattle-producing town in the Cagayan Valley region, an industry where small farmers depend on for their livelihood.
These small farmers will also undergo training on sustainable cattle management and technology to produce quality cattle which will in turn be distributed to them.
This project will be supervised by the Department of Agriculture-Regional Field Office (DA-RFO) in Cagayan Valley which will also implement the technical aspect.
Meanwhile, breeding materials will be supplied and sustained by the RFO AI centers and facilities. (Jojo Mangahis)
