Some 150 bus units were deployed Wednesday under the interim operations of the EDSA Busway.

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) are implementing the transportation service meant to complement the MRT-3 operations and its bus augmentation scheme.

The EDSA Busway, which will have a total 550 approved bus units when fully operational, will assist in transporting commuters to bus stops found along the stretch of EDSA from Monumento to the Paranaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX).

Along the route from Monumento to Quezon Avenue, the buses will be loading and unloading passengers in the following bus stops: Bagong Barrio, LRT Balintawak, Kaingin Road, LRT Muñoz Station, MRT North Avenue Station (southbound-loading only, northbound-unloading only) and MRT Quezon Avenue Station (southbound-loading only, northbound-unloading only).

From Estrella exit, the buses will be permitted to load and unload passengers at the following curbside stops from Buendia to the PITX: Buendia, Ayala (southbound-unloading only, northbound-loading and unloading), Magallanes, Evangelista/Malibay, Taft Avenue (southbound-unloading only, northbound-loading only), Roxas Boulevard, Macapagal Avenue, SM Mall of Asia and PITX, the terminus.

With the EDSA Busway, travel time from Monumento to PITX will be shortened from the usual 2 to 3 hours to a maximum of one hour, officials claimed.

From Timog Avenue to Santolan, the LTFRB will be adopting a mini loop to be serviced by shuttles or mini buses starting July 2. Jojo Mangahis
