Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Gov. Benjamin Diokno remained the country’s highest-paid government official in 2021, the Commission on Audit’s (COA) latest report on salaries and allowances showed.
Diokno received P41.81 million in 2021 to top the list for the second-straight year. His income doubled from P19.79 million in 2020.
Diokno will head the Department of Finance under the administration of president-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
Victor Bruce Tolentino and Felipe Medalla, BSP Monetary Board members, were the second- and third-highest paid, respectively.
Tolentino received P23.29 million, while Medalla, who is set to replace Diokno as BSP chief, received P21.83 million.
BSP Monetary Board members Antonio Abacan Jr. (P21.70 million), Peter Favila (21.67 million) and Anita Linda Aquino (P21.42 million) completed the top six.
BSP deputy governors Chuchi Fonacier (P20.24 million), Maria Almasara Cyd Amador (P20.17 million) and Francisco Dakila Jr. (P17.83 million) were the seventh-, eighth- and ninth highest paid officials, respectively.
At the 10th and 11th places were BSP senior assistant governors Ma. Ramona Gertrudes Santiago (P17.38 million) and Elmore Capule (P17.24 million).
Solicitor General Jose Calida who was the second-highest-paid government official in 2019 and 2020, slid to 12th with P16.59 million. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
