President Rodrigo Duterte has placed Iligan City under modified enhanced community for the entire month of September following a recent spike in Covid-19 cases in the city.

Iligan City was among the “areas of urgent concern” listed by the UP-OCTA research group. It recorded 20 new Covid-19 cases on Monday, which brought the city’s total to 297.

Metro Manila will remain under general community quarantine (GCQ).

Bulacan, Batangas, Tacloban City and Bacolod will also be under GCQ.

Palace spokesman Harry Roque said those aged under 21, senior citizens, pregnant women and those with underlying illness remained prohibited from going outside their homes.

The rest of the country will be under modified GCQ, the least stringent community quarantine classification.

All quarantine classifications will run from Sept. 1 to 30.

As of Aug. 31, the country has tallied 220,819 Covid-19 cases.

The UP-OCTA group has estimated the national total to reach 350,000 Covid-19 by next month. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
