The Philippine government has placed 14 more areas under Alert Level 3 over surging Covid-19 cases.

In a statement, acting Palace spokesman Karlo Nograles said the following areas would be under Alert Level 3 from Jan. 9 to Jan. 15:

Baguio City
Dagupan City
Santiago City
Cagayan City
Angeles City
Bataan
Olongapo City
Pampanga
Zambales
Batangas
Lucena City
Naga City
Iloilo City
Lapu-lapu City

Nograles said the areas were escalated to the higher alert level following the recommendation of the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases’s sub-technical working group on data analytics.

The Philippines on Thursday recorded 17,220 new Covid-19 cases with an all-time-high 26.5-percent positivity rate.
