Strong winds and hailstorm hit earthquake victims’ tents at 5:00 P.M. Monday in Makilala town in North Cotabato province where undetermined number of internally displaced persons stayed after a series of strong tremors recently.
National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) deputy spokesperson Rachelle Anne Miranda said the damaged tents were located in three evacuation centers.
Rescuers immediately responded and transferred the affected persons to the nearest government-run school facility. Other government agencies provided clothing, blankets and tents.
NDRRMC Executive Director and Office of Civil Defense Administrator Ricardo Jalad said the Department of Social Welfare and Development replaced the damaged tarpaulin tents and attended to the victims’ immediate needs. (Melo M. Acuña)
