Senator Nancy Binay said the government’s Covid-19 response is a failure and advised the Duterte administration to admit that they cannot solve the crisis alone.

“It is a failure. The government response is a failure. And I think government needs to admit na hindi niya kayang bigyan ng solusyon ang problema,” Binay said during an interview with ANC.

The lady senator asserted that the government’s plan is “to downplay the problem.”

“Paano natin bibigyan ng solution ang problema kung hindi natin tinatanggap na may malaki tayong problema,” she said.

“Dapat nga we should appreciate and welcome help, because ‘di ba may tumutulong? Kumbaga I think that’s the only way we can solve where we are right now, is if we all work together, if the government works with the private sector,” Binay further explained.

However, she is not in favor of the idea of President Rodrigo Duterte resigning amid the administration’s failures stressing it “will divide the country more.”

“At the moment, eh hindi natin kailangan ang ganoong division. Hindi natin kailangan ang ganoong paghiwalay. What we need right now is for all of us to work together,” she said.

“Competition” and “power struggle” has always been prevalent between the government and the private sector, Binay added.

“Nakita naman natin doon sa pagbili ng bakuna, ‘di ba parang noong umpisa ayaw payagan ng gobyerno na bumili ang private sector ng vaccine. Kaya nga we had to produce a vaccination law para nga maayos at kumbaga mapayagan talaga itong mga private sector to procure,” Binay said.

“So parang laging may ganoong, hindi naman laban, but there’s always that power struggle, there’s always that competition,” she added.

Malacañang earlier dismissed criticism of its handling of the pandemic saying its “critics have always something to say”, while repeatedly defending its effort to address the pandemic. Ronald dela Cruz
