Vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. on Monday said the government was eyeing to increase the number of Covid-19 vaccine booster shots administered daily to 500,000.

Reporting to President Rodrigo Duterte, Galvez said 72.16 million Filipinos should be boosted by the end of the year.

According to the National Covid-19 vaccination dashboard, 5,131,203 Filipinos have received booster shots against Covid-19 as of Jan. 17.

The total and pace of vaccination remain low and slow, Galvez said.

The government is aiming to vaccinate 90 million Filipinos in 2022.

With more than 55 million fully vaccinated individuals as of Jan. 17, the Philippines remains “on track” to reach the 90-million goal, Galvez said.

The Philippines is seeing a surge in Covid-19 cases, which has caused the government to reimpose stricter mobility restrictions. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
