Ilocos Norte will be under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) until Sept. 30, Malacañang announced on Tuesday.

Palace spokesman Harry Roque earlier announced that Ilocos Norte would revert to general community quarantine (GCQ) with heightened restrictions on Sept. 8.

“Ang Ilocos Norte po ay nasa MECQ mula September 7 to 30. Ang naunang classification po ng Ilocos Norte ay GCQ with heightened restrictions,” Roque said in his virtual presser on Tuesday.

Ilocos Norte has 2,498 active Covid-19 cases as of Sept. 6.

The following areas will also be under MECQ from Sept. 8 to 30:

  • Apayao
  • Bataan
  • Bulacan
  • Cavite
  • Lucena City
  • Rizal
  • Laguna
  • Iloilo Province
  • Iloilo City
  • Cagayan De Oro City

Metro Manila will also remain under MECQ until Sept. 15 or until the government finalizes guidelines for the implementation of granular lockdowns. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
