Malacañang on Thursday said financial assistance would be given to families in areas under the most restrictive enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

ECQ was reimposed over Iloilo City, Iloilo Province, Cagayan de Oro City and Gingoog City until Aug. 15.

“Nandiyan na po iyong assistance na sinabi ng pangulo na kinakailangang ibigay kapag tayo po ay nag-ECQ…Ang pondo po ay dina-download na po sa mga lokal na pamahalaan,” Palace spokesman Harry Roque said.

The cash aid would amount to P1,000 per individual or a maximum of P4,000 per family.

Metro Manila ECQ in the balance

Because of limited funds, Roque said it would be difficult to place Metro Manila under ECQ.

There are more than 13 million people residing in the capital region.

“Wala pa po akong alam tungkol dito kaya nga po mahirap na magdesisyon kaagad at ang mga mayors, alam din nila hindi pupuwedeng mag-lockdown kung walang ayuda,” he said.

Metro Manila mayors have been pushing for the region’s shift to ECQ due to the rising Covid-19 cases and the Delta variant. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
