Removing face masks and face shields are not yet advisable as the country has not yet met its target number of vaccinated individuals, an adviser to the National Task Force (NTF) on Covid-19 said.

Removing face masks and face shields would only be advisable when 50 percent of the population had been fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

“Ang target po na ma-advice na tanggalin ‘yung masks and face shields ay umabot tayo ng 50 percent nu’ng target population, so mga 50 million between, so mga between 40 to 50 million,” NTF adviser Ted Herbosa said during the Laging Handa government briefing on July 8.

The government has so far administered 12 million doses of vaccines, of which nine million were for first doses.

The government had signed a deal with Pfizer to supply 40 million doses of vaccines as the country faced vaccine shortages. Dominic Emanuel Apolona
