Vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. on Wednesday claimed the country’s Covid-19 inoculation drive was not lagging behind compared with other countries despite its limited vaccine supply.

At a House of Representatives hearing, Galvez said the number of Covid-19 vaccines the country had administered was in the upper echelon of worldwide rankings.

“Hindi po tayo nangungulelat, nasa upper third po tayo sa vaccination program even though our supply is very limited during this first quarter and second quarter,” Galvez said.

So far, 1,353,107 Filipinos have been vaccinated against Covid-19, Galvez said.

Of the total, 989,703 were medical workers (A1), 132,948 were senior citizens (A2) and 180,315 were persons with co-morbidities (A3).

A total of 1,562,563 Covid-19 vaccine doses have been deployed nationwide, Galvez added.

Galvez said the Philippines had deployed the fourth highest number of Covid-19 vaccines among Southeast Asian countries, behind Indonesia, Singapore and Myanmar.

The country has recorded 962,307 Covid-19 cases as of April 21. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
