Local government units (LGUs) and the private sector in the country will soon be allowed to purchase Covid-19 vaccines directly from manufacturers, vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. has said.
In a taped briefing aired Saturday morning, Galvez said the country would soon do away with multi-party agreements or MPAs.
“In the future, we’ll change our procurement strategies kasi ‘yung ating mga LGU at saka mga private sectors, puwede na pong dumiretso. Wala na po tayo magiging MPA,” he said during a meeting with President Rodrigo Duterte.
LGUs and the private sector are currently allowed to purchase vaccines from manufacturers but only with the involvement of the national government.
The tripartite agreements involve LGUs, vaccine manufacturers and the National Task Force Covid-19 (NTF), which Galvez heads.
Likewise, the government is re-calibrating its focus and expanding strategy by giving more allocations to Regions 4-A, 3, 7, 6, 10, 11, and other surge areas.
With more than 50 percent of Metro Manila residents fully vaccinated, Galvez said the government would “recalibrate” its vaccine allocation to prioritize the Calabarzon region, and then Region 3, Region 6, Region 7, Region 10, Region 11 and “other surge areas as directed by the president.” John Ezekiel J.
