The Philippines was able to vaccinate one million individuals against Covid-19 per week the past two weeks for a Southeast Asia-best pace, vaccine czar Carlito Galvez said on Monday.

In a televised briefing with President Rodrigo Duterte and Cabinet officials, Galvez said the
country’s vaccine administration tempo during the span was best among Southeast Asian nations with almost 150,000 individuals being inoculated daily.

Galvez said the country’s vaccination output in May was three times more than its March to April total.

A total of 8,329,050 vaccine doses have been delivered to the Philippines.

The country has administered 5.18 million vaccine doses, based on latest data presented by Galvez.

The country’s vaccine supply will also be more stable moving forward as it was assured at least two million doses monthly, Galvez said.

Galvez, citing Philippine Ambassador to the US Jose Manuel “Babe” Romualdez, said the Philippines would be a top-priority recipient of a portion of the 80 million vaccine doses the US will distribute for free.

John Ezekiel J. Hirro
