Despite being fully vaccinated, Senator Richard Gordon still contracted the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
In a radio interview, the 75-year-old senator confirmed that he is Covid-19 positive and is undergoing home quarantine.
Gordon, who is also the chairman of the humanitarian organization Philippine Red Cross, said that he is “grateful for the protection the vaccine affords me today.”
“While infections in vaccinated people are relatively uncommon, they can and do happen. What vaccines offer, as has been documented in countries with high rate of vaccination, is protection against serious illness, hospitalization, and deaths,” he said.
The senator urged Filipinos to get vaccinated against the respiratory disease as soon as vaccines become available to them. “Vaccines work and they save lives”, he added. Gordon is the sixth Philippine senator to test positive for Covid-19. Zeus Legaspi
