The UAAP’s abruptly ended Season 82 formally came to a close on Saturday through a virtual ceremony, giving way to Season 83, which will have the theme, “Fully Alive, Champions for Life.”
“As we close Season 82, we are grateful to all those who gave their all to make Season 82 possible. And it is with honor that we turn over the hosting of UAAP Season 83 to De La Salle University (DLSU),” UAAP Board of Trustees chairman Fr. Jett Villarin, S.J. of Ateneo said.
Season 82 had the motto, “All For More.” The Covid-19 pandemic forced the UAAP to cancel all second semester sports amid the community quarantines in the country.
Due to the cancellation, no champions were crowned for volleyball, football, athletics, baseball and softball.
“For the love of sports, we have to challenge ourselves to continue to excel. It is important that we do so with resilience and fortitude. Also we must plan and play but with safety and prudence in our minds so that we do not risk the health and safety of our members,” DLSU’s Bro. Raymundo Suplido, F.S.C. said.
The University of Santo Tomas was named overall champion for the fourth straight year after clinching best records in both junior and collegiate levels.
A date for UAAP’s 83rd season has yet to be announced. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
