Fr. Laureano “Larry” Faraon, a Catholic media icon in the Philippines, died on Sunday. He was 64.

Radio Veritas said in a statement that the veteran anchor succumbed to pneumonia at 3:06 a.m. at a hospital in Quezon City.

The priest’s passing happened 22 days after his birthday.

Fr. Faraon was ordained a Dominican priest in 1983. He was incardinated to the Prelature of Batanes in 2008.

Bishop Danilo Ulep of Batanes expressed his sadness upon hearing of the death of Fr. Faraon, who formerly hosted the Family Rosary Crusade.

“I ask everyone that in the midst of grief and sorrow, let us be one in asking the Lord for comfort and consolation, to give strength to the bereaved family of Fr. Larry,” Ulep said over Radio Veritas.

Fr. Faraon was program manager of Radio Veritas during the 1986 EDSA people power revolt. He hosted the Sunday radio program “Healing Touch” until his death.

He was last heard on Radio Veritas on June 15, when he offered Mass live on-air and online. CBCP News
