Four new public utility bus routes opened Monday: Buendia (Gil Puyat Avenue) to Bonifacio Global City, Gilmore to Taytay, Monumento to Valenzuela Gateway Complex and Monumento to San Jose del Monte.

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board announced the new bus routes as well as Presidential spokesman Harry Roque’s statement that the government understood the plight of commuting workers.

Roque emphasized however that Metro Manila was still under general community quarantine (GCQ) and that, “At this juncture, we still cannot let all modes of transportation to be on the streets.”

Eight bus routes started operating during the first week of the GCQ and more routes will open this week based on daily assessments conducted by the transportation sector, he said.

Roque reminded the public that the Department of Transportation was implementing “a gradual, calibrated and partial resumption of public transport under two phases.”

From June 1-21, 2020, public transportation services available include train and bus augmentation services, point-to-point buses, public utility buses, taxis and transport network service vehicles, shuttle services and bicycles.

From June 22-30, 2020, modern public utility vehicles and UV express vehicles will also be allowed to operate. (Jojo Mangahis)
