The International Basketball Federation (Fiba) on Friday announced the cancellation of its Asia Cup amid increasing Covid-19 cases in the host country Indonesia.
The Fiba Asia Cup was originally scheduled from August 16 to 28.
In a statement sent to the federation’s member countries, Fiba executive director Hagop Khajirian said the games were rescheduled to July 2022.
Jakarta, Indonesia will remain the host city, he said.
“This evaluation has taken into consideration multiple aspects such as current travel restrictions, the well-being of the participants, fan access and experience, and the objective of ensuring the highest quality of events,” Khajirian said.
