The Philippine Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the use of two self-administered Covid-19 antigen test kits.

FDA officer in charge Oscar Gutierrez said the approved test kits were of the brands Abbott and Labnovation Technologies, Inc.

The self-administered kits contain instructions printed in layman’s terms, Gutierrez said.

The FDA has approved 116 antigen test kits in total, including those that require the assistance of professionals.

It has also removed 86 antigen test kits from the market.

Gutierrez said self-administered test kits could encourage the protection of communities.

The FDA chief also reminded the public to only buy drugs and kits from FDA-approved outlets.

Dapat po ma-observe po ‘yung good storage and good distribution practice,” he said. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
