The total number of fatalities due to the bad weather in many parts of the country since January 1 is not at 43, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported.
According to the NDRRMC’s 6am bulletin, 13 of the logged fatalities came from the Bicol region; 12 from the Zamboanga peninsula; eight from Northern Mindanao; seven from Eastern Visayas; and one each in Mimaropa, Davao and Soccsksargen regions.
However, only 20 of the reported deaths have been confirmed so far, while the others are still under verification, the NDRRMC said.
Eight people remain missing while 11 are reported injured due to the effects of the inclement weather—caused by low pressure areas, shear line, and the Northeast Monsoon (Amihan).
A total of of 2,043,686 people or 497,015 families were affected in Cagayan, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga, Northern Mindanao, Davao, Soccsksargen, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
Among the numbers, 83,723 persons or 20,569 families were staying in 297 evacuation centers while 27,566 individuals or 8,321 families were sheltered in other places.
