The president of a farmers’ organization was gunned down by three unidentified men at the back of his house in Barangay Almacen, Hermosa, Bataan.
Honorio Samaniego, 66, president of Alyansa ng Magbubukid sa Bataan (ALMABA), was rushed by his family members to a hospital in Dinalupihan town but was later on pronounced dead on arrival.
Hermosa police chief, Police Maj. Jeffrey Onde said Samaniego had just arrived home from his farm and while washing his hands was gunned down at around 8:00am.
Witnesses said three armed suspects wearing bonnets alighted a gray Toyota Innova before heading to the victim’s house. Samaniego just came from a farm near his house when he was attacked.
Onde said witnesses heard successive shots afterwards.
Investigators found seven empty shells coming from a yet unknown caliber of a handgun at the crime scene
Onde said they have yet to establish the motive for the killing.
For six years, Samaniego was barangay chairman of Almacen. He ran for mayor of Hermosa in this year’s May elections but failed. (Jojo Mangahis)
