FACT-CHECK: Vlogger, maling ipinahayag na namatay ang drug war victim bago pa ang termino ni Duterte

CLAIM: Namatay ang biktima ng war on drugs na si Ephraim Escudero bago pa ang pagkakahalal ni pangulong Rodrigo Duterte noong 2016.

Isang Facebook user ang pumuna sa pamilya ng drug war victim na si Ephraim Escudero, at maling ipinahayag na namatay siya bago pa man umupo sa pwesto si dating pangulong Rodrigo Duterte noong 2016.

Red Flag: Noong Feb. 24, nagpost ng isang Facebook reel si Al Moralde kung saan pinuna niya ang kapatid ni Ephraim na si Sheerah Escudero, dahil sa kanyang pahayag tungkol sa pag-aresto kay Duterte ng International Criminal Court (ICC). 

  • Nagsimula ang reel sa isang clip mula sa ABS-CBN News interview ni Sheerah kasama ang iba pang pamilya ng mga biktima ng war on drugs sa ilalim ng Duterte administration. 
  • Sumunod dito ang commentary ni Moralde sa Bisaya, kung saan binatikos niya si Sheerah dahil sa pagdiriwang nito sa pag-aresto kay Duterte.

Mga resibo: Ang 18-anyos na si Ephraim ay natagpuang patay noong September 2017.

  • Natagpuan ang kanyang bangkay na nakagapos at may balot na packaging tape sa ulo, limang araw matapos siyang i-report na nawawala.
  • Umupo sa pwesto si Duterte noong June 2016, labimpitong buwan bago natagpuang patay si Ephraim.

Rewind: Inaresto si Duterte ng ICC noong March 11, 2025, at kasalukuyang naghihintay ng trial sa The Hague sa Netherlands.

  • Haharap si Duterte sa tatlong bilang ng crimes against humanity kaugnay ng murder at attempted murder na may kinalaman sa war on drugs noong kanyang administrasyon.

Bakit ito may fact-check: Sa oras ng pagsulat, ang reel ay na-share ng 32,000 beses at nakakuha ng mahigit 7,600,000 views, 400,000 reactions, and 22,100 comments, na karamihan ay ininsulto si Sheerah dahil sa kanyang paghahanap ng hustisya para sa kanyang kapatid.

Bantay-fake: Mag-ingat sa mga claims sa social media na sinasabi bilang totoo, lalo na sa mga seryosong isyu tulad ng extrajudicial killings. 

  • Ang maling impormasyon ay madaling nakakapagpabago ng pananaw ng publiko at nagdudulot ng matitinding emosyon laban sa mga sangkot sa isyu.
  • Ang malaking follower count at meta-verified status ay hindi garantisado na lahat ng mgaimpormasyong pino-post nito ay totoo at mapagkakatiwalaan.
  • Laging i-cross-verify ang mga impormasyon gamit ang mga mapagkakatiwalaang sources at huwag umasa lang sa mga maikling videos. Arianne Tadina
