FACT-CHECK: Video showing flooded city not from Bicol

Oct 22, 2024 | Fact Checked by PressOnePH

CLAIM: Video of the supposed situation in Bicol after severe tropical storm Kristine

RATING: FALSE

A Youtube user falsely claimed that a video showed the aftermath of Severe Tropical Storm Kristine (Trami) in the Bicol region.

The video posted by user @goodtoknow777 has a text overlay saying, “SITUATION SA BIKOL TODAY” (Situation in Bicol today).

The video shows an aerial view of a city submerged in flood.

The stadium shown in the video is not from Bicol nor anywhere in the Philippines. It is the Arena do Gremio in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, in southern Brazil.

The original video was taken in Porto Alegre, Brazil after a strong storm in May 2024. It was posted by user @uesleyvoos in Tiktok with a caption saying, “RS PEDE SOCORRO #ajudeors #riograndedosul” (RS request for help #help #riograndedosul).

The clip has also been posted on Instagram with the same false claim. Jannah Argote
