FACT-CHECK: Video of news reporter interviewing protester, AI-generated

Jul 14, 2025 | Fact Checked by PressOnePH

CLAIM: A “protester” admits in a news interview that he only attended the protest after being bribed.

RATING: FALSE

A Facebook user posted an AI-generated video showing a man holding a placard being interviewed by a reporter during a street protest.

In the video, the man with a placard saying “EJK Killing” explains that he only attended the protest because he was told there would be incentives.

The fake video has been circulating online and has been reposted by other users following former president Rodrigo Duterte’s ICC detention.

The interview was generated using Google Veo 3,  Google’s latest video generation model, confirmed by the Veo watermark found on the lower right corner of the video.

PressOne.PH also identified other signs of AI manipulation, such as the unintelligible writings on the other placards and the logo on the reporter’s microphone.

There is no existing news organization named “Thrillchaser News” in the Philippines.

As of writing, the video has accumulated over 40,000 views, 226 shares, 475 likes, and 54 comments. Angeline Domingo
