FACT-CHECK: Vice President Sara Duterte did not say Traslacion was a disturbance

Jan 12, 2026 | Fact Checked by PressOnePH

CLAIM: Vice President Sara Duterte said the Traslacion was a disturbance.

RATING: FALSE

Facebook page “NARDZ TV51” posted a screenshot from TikTok account “balitangrepublika” and falsely claimed that Vice President Sara Duterte said the Jan. 9 Traslacion procession was a disturbance.

Flagged content: The screenshot of the TikTok content was uploaded on Facebook on Jan. 10, a day after the annual procession of the Jesus Nazareno image from Rizal Park to its Quiapo shrine.

  • The text on the photo reads, “VP Sara Duterte: Ang prusisyon ng Nazareno na yan ay istorbo lamang.” (“VP Sara Duterte: The procession of Nazareno is only a disturbance.”)
  • The TikTok account erroneously claimed in its caption that it was Duterte’s comment from an “ambush” interview, when she was supposedly asked about the Traslacion procession, and mentioned its effect on traffic and the economy.

Our debunk: Vice President Duterte did not make negative remarks about the Traslacion procession.

  • On Jan. 9, Duterte uploaded a message on her Facebook page for the Feast of Jesus Nazareno, addressed to devotees.
  • There is no reported ambush interview based on our scans of the Office of the Vice President Facebook page and website, and legitimate news media organizations.

Why we fact-checked this: As of writing, the Facebook post has drawn some 2,000 reactions, 3,600 comments, and 630 shares.

  • The Facebook page “NARDZ TV51” has 60,000 followers.
  • The TikTok post has garnered approximately 11,900 views.

Spot the fake: Be wary of posts containing statements from public officials, especially those uploaded by Facebook pages whose authors are unknown.

  • To avoid falling for false statements, always check the official websites and social media accounts of public officials or personalities involved.
  • Cross-check and verify by searching the sites of reputable news organizations. Jessica Mae Galicto
