CLAIM: President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. ordered the arrest of Vice President Sara Duterte.

RATING: FALSE

A Facebook page falsely claimed that Vice President Sara Duterte was in police custody after President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. allegedly ordered her arrest.

The post featured photos of Marcos Jr. and Duterte along with fabricated quotes, making it seem like the two officials were arguing during a hearing.

The post also used a photo of an unidentified woman being escorted by two police officers to imply that it was actually Duterte being arrested.

A reverse image search revealed that the photo of the woman and the police officers was a screenshot from a TV Patrol news report in May 2015.

The claim was made on Nov. 9, and Duterte held press conferences on Nov. 11, 13, and 15, proving that she had not been apprehended by the police.

The last time Marcos Jr. spoke about Duterte was on Oct. 11, during the “Kapihan with the Media” event in Vientiane, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, when he was asked about the status of their relationship.

The edited photo from the Facebook post was also used as a thumbnail for a YouTube video, which as of writing, has amassed 225,893 views. Leigh San Diego
