CLAIM: Sara Duterte is the new president of the Philippines.
RATING: FALSE
A TikTok user falsely claimed that Vice President Sara Duterte is the new president of the Philippines.
The TikTok user manipulated the uploaded video by cutting out the word “vice,” creating the illusion that Duterte only said “president” in the video.
The original clip was from Duterte’s oath-taking ceremony as the country’s 15th vice president on June 19, 2022.
Republic Act 7056 mandates a six-year term for the vice president, which means Duterte has three years left to serve in her role.
As of January 2025, Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. and Sara Duterte remain the president and the vice president of the Philippines, respectively.
The manipulated video has so far amassed 4.6 million views, 224,300 reactions, 14,400 comments, and 36,800 shares on TikTok. Leigh San Diego
