FACT-CHECK: Resurfaced video twists context of MNLF Davao’s call for Marcos Jr.’s resignation

CLAIM: MNLF Davao state chairman Roland “Aziz Monk” Olamit called for Marcos Jr.’s resignation.

RATING: MISSING CONTEXT

A Facebook user named “Louie Jay” reposted a spliced clip of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) Davao state chairman Roland “Aziz Monk” Olamit, calling for President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s resignation, on May 12. 

The video has garnered over 21,000 reactions and 6,400 shares as of writing. While it is true that Olamit did call for Marcos’ resignation in the clip, it failed to provide the complete context behind Olamit’s resignation call.

The original clip was taken from an exclusive interview by “Pilipinas Kong Mahal,” a commentary page, with Olamit on April 18, 2024. 

His statement against the president was due to his dissatisfaction with the administration last year, over the issuance of an arrest warrant against Kingdom of Jesus Christ founder, Pastor Apollo Quiboloy, and Marcos’s rumored drug use.

So, while it is true that Olamit did ask Marcos to step down, it has no connection with recent political events leading to the 2025 midterm elections. Marc Nathaniel Servo
