CLAIM: Video showing millions of people chanting the name of former president Rodrigo Duterte

RATING: FALSE

A pro-Duterte Facebook user recycled and shared a manipulated video that supposedly shows millions of people chanting the name of ex-president Rodrigo Duterte and falsely claiming that the video was taken in the Philippines.

The same manipulated video was previously uploaded to TikTok, but with a different and misleading overlay text.

The watermark of the TikTok user who uploaded the previously debunked video remained visible, proving that the content was recycled.

Despite PressOne.PH’s previous debunked, the video has resurfaced and regained public attention following the growing rift between the Dutertes and the camp of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr..

The original video was filmed in Timor-Leste during Pope Francis’ visit to the country in September.

Another proof that the gathering was held in connection with Pope Francis is that tarpaulins announcing the papal visit were visible in the original video.

As of writing, the manipulated video has amassed 1.9 million views and 104,300 reactions on TikTok, and 2.5 million views and 27,100 reactions on Facebook. Leigh San Diego
