CLAIM: ‘Selfies’ of Sen. Risa Hontiveros and suspended mayor Alice Guo together.

RATING: FALSE

Doctored photos of Sen. Risa Hontiveros and the suspended mayor of Bamban, Tarlac, Alice Guo, having selfies together have circulated on various social media platforms.

The posts falsely suggested that the two personalities had warm ties before the Senate’s probe into Philippine Offshore Gaming Operations (POGOs) and Guo’s identity.

Moreover, it sought to cast doubt on the integrity of Hontiveros, who had exposed Guo’s real identity. Guo was found to have faked her Filipino citizenship to be able to run for public office in Tarlac.

The fake photos were first shared on X (formerly Twitter) by user @RyanLingo_ who also accused the opposition senator of being “self-serving” in leading the Senate inquiry on POGOs.

The user has already taken down the original post, confirming that the photos were AI-generated.

On TikTok, meanwhile, similar posts surfaced with captions claiming that the senator had “betrayed” Guo.

Hontiveros issued an official statement on her official Facebook page saying that the photos were all fake and that she had no ties with someone who is a “pekeng Pilipino” (a fake Filipino), and vowing to get after those who had circulated them.

She also called on social media giants to regulate AI content on their platforms. Hurt Allauigan
