FACT-CHECK: No “K-12 Pro” bill in the Senate

CLAIM: Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III plans to extend the K-12 program by one more year under the “K-12 Pro” bill.

RATING: FALSE

A Facebook post falsely claimed that Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III had proposed an additional school year to the K-12 program, called “K-12 Pro.”

Flagged content: The post was captioned, “Nag-uulyanin na ito kung ano2 nalang naiisip! #Sakalamangalasko #titosen #eatbulaga #fblifestyle.” (“He’s [Sotto] becoming senile and comes up with just about anything!”)

• The photo shows an overlay text that reads, “Plano ni Tito Sotto na dagdagan pa ng isang taon ang K-12 program at tawagin ito na K-12 Pro.” (“Sotto plans to add one more year to the K-12 program and call it K-12 Pro.”)

Our debunk: There is no proposed “K-12 Pro” bill or resolution in Congress that aims to extend the K-12 program.

• The Department of Education website has no mention of “K-12 Pro.” 
• No Senate resolution is filed with the name “K-12 Pro.” There are also no Senate bills filed on the matter. The Senate journals do not mention any “K-12 Pro” measure.
• No House bill or resolution about “K-12 Pro” from the previous and present Congresses had been filed.
• Sotto has debunked this false claim on his official Facebook account.

Rewind: On May 15, 2013, the K-12 program, under Republic Act No. 10533, was enacted into law by President Benigno Aquino III. The Department of Education (DepEd) issued on June 14, 2025, a memorandum on the pilot implementation of a “Strengthened Senior High School Curriculum” for Grade 11 in School Year 2025-2026.

• In 2016, the SHS curriculum was fully implemented in public and private schools. 
• On Aug. 10, 2023, Education Secretary Sara Duterte launched the MATATAG Curriculum, which features a decongested curriculum for kindergarten to Grade 10.
