A Facebook group erroneously claimed that the National ID processing can be expedited online for a fee.
The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) has debunked this claim and issued public advisories warning against individuals or entities offering “expedited” national ID services online for a fee.
According to the PSA, which oversees the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys), all National ID applicants are required to appear in person at designated registration centers.
PSA emphasized that the process cannot be done fully online. The initial steps such as demographic data entry that could be done before through the official website are now disabled.
The final step of biometric capture, which includes fingerprints, an iris scan, and photograph, requires the applicant’s physical presence at an authorized PhilSys registration center.
The Philsys advisory stated that all registration services are free of charge.
“Only the PSA is authorized to register individuals to the National ID system, free of any charge. We urge the public to be cautious and to refrain from sharing false information about the National ID being posted on various social media sites,” the advisory stated.
