CLAIM: Facebook video showing tense standoff between politicians claimed to happen in Senate.

RATING: FALSE

A Facebook video falsely claimed on Sept. 25 that a standoff between politicians happened inside the Senate.

The video showed a tense exchange between two persons that nearly resulted in a scuffle.

However, the footage was taken during the Manila City Council’s plenary session on Sept. 24. Shown in both videos is the backdrop of the city council’s session hall, seen at the 1:08:46 mark of the Facebook live broadcast, which is clearly different from the one used by senators.

The tension rose during a discussion on the city’s proposed 2025 budget, contrary to the claim.

According to reports the argument was between councilors Joel Villanueva and Salvador Phillip Lacuna, when the latter argued that the budget approval was “rushed.”

The timing of the claim coincided with the heated argument between senators Juan Miguel Zubiri and Alan Peter Cayetano during the Senate session on Sept. 24 over a resolution on the transfer of barangays to a congressional district in Taguig from Makati.

As of writing, the manipulated video has gathered 427 reactions, 287 comments, and was played 15,000 times on Facebook. Hurt Allauigan
