CLAIM: Photo of a Filipino allegedly executed in Saudi Arabia
RATING: FALSE
An old image of a Bangladesh protest is circulating online and has been falsely claimed as showing the execution of a Filipino in Saudi Arabia.
A Facebook account used the image in a reel saying, “Filipino national executed here @[Saudi Arabia] RIP kabayan”
It was posted after the DFA announced that a Filipino was executed in Saudi Arabia for committing murder on Oct. 5, 2024.
The image used in the misleading post was taken during a protest against the beheading of eight Bangladeshis in Saudi Arabia in 2011.
On Oct. 7, 2011, eight Bangladeshis were publicly executed in Saudi Arabia for the robbery and murder of an Egyptian man.
The DFA did not identify the Filipino executed in Saudi Arabia as requested by the family. Jannah Argote
