FACT-CHECK: Gawa-gawang abisong nagdeklara ng lockdown dahil sa Mpox virus naglipana sa social media

Kumalat sa Facebook ang mga gawa-gawang news card at public advisory poster na nagsasabing magkakaroon ng general community quarantine (GCQ) sa Metro Manila at iba pang rehiyon ngayong Hunyo dahil sa pagdami ng kaso ng Mpox virus sa Pilipinas.  

Umani ang mga ito ng reaksyon mula sa social media users na tila nag-alala at natakot para sa kanilang kaligtasan, dahil baka maging katulad umano ng naturang GCQ ang lockdown noong 2020 na idinulot ng Covid-19 pandemic.

Upang maging kapani-paniwala, ginaya ng mga nagpakalat ang itsura ng mga anunsyo mula sa kilalang news organizations o government agencies at inilabas ang mga ito gamit ang Facebook pages na ginawa upang magpanggap rin na kilalang organisasyon.

Kabilang ang ABS-CBN News, GMA Integrated News, at Department of Health (DOH) sa mga organisasyong ginaya, habang may mga poster din na gumamit ng logo ng World Health Organization (WHO).

 

 

Ayon sa imbestigasyon ng PressOnePH, isang Facebook user na nagngangalang “Ragasa Jr. Ditz” ang unang nag-post noong Mayo 29 ng mga impormasyon at babala tungkol sa Mpox virus, kasama ang maling balita na magkakaroon ng posibleng lockdown.  

Kahit walang sapat na batayan ang pahayag, naging mitsa ito upang magpakalat ng maling impormasyon ang iba pang Facebook pages at users.

Sa pagtatapos ng Mayo, tatlong pekeng Facebook pages ang nag-ulat ng posibleng lockdown:  “Health News Ph” na nagsabi ng lockdown sa Hunyo 10; “Partido Local” na nagbabala ng Luzon-wide lockdown kung hindi mapigilan ang virus; at “Gov.ph Update” na nagsabing magkakaroon ng GCQ sa Metro Manila sa Hunyo 10.

Karaniwang may kasamang hyperlinks ang mga pekeng post na nagdidirekta lamang sa online shopping sites gaya ng Shopee at Lazada.

Dahil sa mga gawa-gawang pahayag, muling kumalat ang lumang post ng ABS-CBN News tungkol sa GCQ noong Hunyo 2020 na nagdulot ng takot sa publiko, kahit pa ang tinutukoy dito ay ang Covid-19 pandemic na limang taon na ang nakalipas.

Nilinaw ng ABS-CBN News sa isang fact-check article noong Mayo 31 na hindi sila naglabas ng opisyal na news card na nagdedeklara ng posibleng lockdown, at binago lamang ang mga larawan mula sa dati nilang post.  

Matapos kumalat, pinabulaanan ng DOH noong Mayo 31 ang mga maling impormasyon at sinabing, “Walang lockdown kahit saan man sa Pilipinas.” 

Nagbabala rin ang DOH laban sa mga maling balita na may kinalaman sa lockdown dahil sa Mpox virus na inilarawan nila bilang deceptive marketing, fake endorsements, o fabricated health claims.

Isang viral post tungkol sa Mpox ay nakakuha na ng halos 4,800 reactions, 599 comments, at 19,000 shares.  Alessandra Reodique at Jamaica Cabilis
