CLAIM: Chinese protesters showed support for the Philippines over the West Philippine Sea issue.

A photo circulating on Facebook shows an altered image of a Chinese man holding a placard saying, “We are Chinese living in the Philippines! The West Philippine Sea is ours not in China!”
A Facebook account under the name of “Wilfred Macquipoten” posted the manipulated image on his account and drew thousands of reactions and shares on the platform.
The original photo is that of the pro-China rally held at London’s Trafalgar Square in 2017 and had nothing to do with the West Philippine Sea row.
It was used by Foreign Policy as a banner photo for an article titled “China’s Youth Are Trapped in the Cult of Nationalism” on Oct. 1, 2019, and cited Andres Pantoja as the photographer.
In the original photo, the placard states: “One Nation, One China.”
The image was also used by The Kootneeti as a photo for an article titled “Inherent Contradictions of Nationalism and Communism in China.”
The cards were altered in an apparent attempt to mislead social media users.
As of this writing, the altered photo posted on Facebook has garnered 34,000 reactions, 4,500 comments, and 54,000 shares.
