CLAIM: Majority of Filipinos were satisfied with former President Rodrigo Duterte’s war on drugs
RATING: MISSING CONTEXT
The Duterte political party’s official account on Facebook posted outdated data on Filipinos’ perceptions of the war on drugs, not accounting for prevailing public opinion on the matter.
The PDP-Laban post sought to counter Sen. Risa Hontivero’s statement saying “Hindi ipagmamalaki kailanman ng Pilipino ang war on drugs (Filipinos will never be proud of the war on drugs),” with a compilation of survey results during the Duterte administration.
Recent surveys regarding the war on drugs, specifically in relation to the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) probe into the issue, suggest otherwise.
A poll by the Social Weather Stations (SWS) indicated Filipinos’ growing approval of the ICC investigation regarding the extrajudicial killings during ex-President Rodrigo Duterte’s crackdown.
A separate survey by Octa Research found that 55% of Filipinos agreed that the Philippine government should cooperate with the investigation being conducted by the ICC, higher than the previous years. Yesha Ryn Santos
