CLAIM: Davao City is “first in economic dynamism and infrastructure” under Mayor Sebastian Duterte
RATING: MISSING CONTEXT
Social media posts on Facebook and Twitter have misleadingly claimed that Davao City ranked first in terms of “economic dynamism and infrastructure.”
The posts included a photo of Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte along with the misleading claim, which lacked the context of the actual rankings.
The ranking comes from Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index released annually by the Department of Trade and Industry.
The 2024 rankings had a separate list of highly urbanized cities in the Philippines.
Davao City ranked No. 1 in economic dynamism and infrastructure in Visayas and Mindanao.
Quezon City and Manila topped the ranking of highly urbanized cities nationwide.
As of writing, the misleading social media posts have amassed over 1,520 likes, 152 comments, and 145 shares. Yesha Ryn Santos
