Two children in Sultan Mastura, Maguindanao were killed after an alleged fragmentation grenade exploded near their home on Saturday.
Daniel Amora, 7, and Omar Amilol, 5, residents of Barangay Macaviso, Sultan Mastura were immediately rushed to Sanitarium Hospital in nearby Sultan Kudarat town but died after a few hours due to multiple shrapnel injuries.
One of the victims lost his right arm.
Maj. Bangon Mamako, Sultan Mastura municipal police chief, said the children were playing at the back of their house in Sitio Santillano, Barangay Macaviso when the explosion happened at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
“The children were last seen playing together at the back of a house made of light materials when the explosion occurred,” Mamako said in his report to Col. Arnold Santiago, Maguindanao police director.
Police are still verifying witness claims that the children could have been playing with a grenade they found someplace else. (Rommel F. Lopez)
