President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed his former campaign manager, Leoncio “Jun” Evasco Jr., as his adviser on streamlining government processes.
“The Palace confirms that President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has signed the appointment of Mr. Leoncio Badilla Evasco Jr. as presidential adviser on streamlining of government processes, with the rank of secretary, on Nov. 24, 2020,” Duterte’s spokesman Harry Roque said in a statement on Wednesday.
Evasco was secretary to the Cabinet from 2016 to 2018.
He resigned to run as governor of Bohol province in the 2019 midterm elections, but lost to Arthur Yap.
Evasco also served as head of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council after Vice President Mario Leonor “Leni” Robredo was forced to leave her post.
The ex-priest has worked under Duterte since his mayoral campaign in 1988.
“PA Evasco is not new in the Duterte administration having served as Cabinet secretary in the early years of the current administration. His familiarity with the present bureaucracy would contribute greatly in his new task of streamlining government processes in the Executive. Welcome back, PA Evasco,” Roque said. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
