The Philippines will remain under Alert Level 2 until yearend amid the threat of the Omicron Covid-19 variant, Malacañang said on Wednesday.

Acting Palace spokesman Karlo Nograles said the new risk classification would be effective from Dec. 16 to Dec. 31, 2021.

Alert Level 2 allows several outdoor and indoor activities to be held albeit at limited capacity.

Nograles also announced that the guidelines on community quarantines had been repealed and replaced with alert level system guidelines.

The alert level system replaced the community quarantines the government has been imposing to curb the spread of Covid-19 since last year.

The Philippines will remain under Alert Level 2 even as it detected its first Omicron cases.

The variant was detected among two recent travelers to the country, both of whom are presently in quarantine facilities, Nograles said.

The country has 10,193 active Covid-19 cases as of Dec. 15. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
