Palace spokesman Harry Roque on Wednesday said the electronic distribution of the second tranche of cash aid under the social amelioration program would speed up the issuance process and reduce the possibility of corruption.

“We’re also plugging the holes for corruption because when there’s no more intervention by local government units, then we’ll reduce the possibility of corruption,” Roque said in ANC’s “Headstart.”

The Department of the Interior and Local Government announced today that 301 barangay officials are facing criminal charges for anomalies in the cash aid distribution.

Roque also said the long queues brought about by the first tranche distribution caused social distancing violations, which the electronic process would erase.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development has not yet released the P100 billion allotted for the aid, but the spokesman said the distribution will be instant.

“So, please, we ask for people’s patience, it will happen mostly electronically and when it does, it will be finished in a matter of seconds,” he said.

Social Welfare Secretary Rolando Bautista earlier said the cash aid will start rolling out this week. (John Ezekiel J. Hirro)
