Rolando Paez, the lotto winner from Eastern Samar donated P100 thousand for the “Brigada Eskwela” requirements in Sabang Central Elementary School in Borongan City.
This was announced by the principal of Sabang Central Elementary School, Victoria Arma during today’s kick-off program of “Brigada Eskwela”, a project of the Department of Education (DepEd) to prepare schools for the school opening.
This act of generosity by lotto winner Paez prompted other donors, such as the City Savings Bank, Land Bank of the Philippines, and others, to donate cash and materials for the National Schools Maintenance Week said a Philippine News Agency report on Monday.
Paez was one-half of the winners of the P1.18-billion Ultra Lotto 6/58 jackpot last year, taking home a total of P472-million.
Thanking all the donors, DepEd Asst. Superintendent Margarito Cadayona further said, “I urge you to support education not only during this week but all throughout the school year, we are all together in this.”
This week, about a thousand volunteers clean, paint and repair damaged school furniture so that when school opens by June 3, students can immediately start classes. (JoelMangahis/PacificTimes)
