President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday said Filipinos should pray more in order to save the planet.
“So many things really coming our way, problems,” he said in a televised address.
“But if you want to have an advice, if you are ready to get one, there is only one thing really that can save this planet, it’s God. Maybe we should pray more, whatever the God,” he added.
Duterte made the remark after lamenting the country’s state amid the Covid-19 pandemic and after the onslaughts of recent typhoons intensified by climate change.
“Noong una, ‘yong climate change medyo ano pa ako noon na parang ayaw ko maniwala. But ngayon, sobra talaga ang tubig na galing sa langit because of umiinit ho ang planeta,” he said.
“At even by a certain degree higher we are in serious trouble kasi ‘yong dagat ho mabilis na rin iyong singaw ng tubig… And iilang ano, that’s the biggest — mas marami pa sa landmass ang tubig kaya kung bumagsak ‘yan, talagang
todo-todo. And we are not prepared for that.”
The president recently paid a visit to the “Auring”-hit Surigao del Sur.
Before he became president, Duterte in 2015 cursed Pope Francis for causing traffic during his Metro Manila visit.
Duterte in 2018 cursed and called God stupid for the concept of original sin.
“Kinain ni Adam then malice was born. Who is this stupid God? Istupido talaga itong p****g ina kung ganoon. You created something perfect and then you think of an event that would tempt and destroy the quality of your work,” he said. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
