People who refuse to get vaccinated against Covid-19 may get jailed, President Rodrigo Duterte warned on Monday.

“There is a crisis being faced in this country. There is a national emergency. Kung ayaw mong magpabakuna, ipaaresto kita,” he said in his Talk to the Nation address.

“At ang bakuna…itusok ko sa puwet mo. P****g ina. Bwiset kayo. E hirap na nga tayo tapos nandiyan pa kayo,” he added.

While Duterte said he did not want to impose a “strong-arm method” in encouraging Filipinos to get vaccinated, he said the crisis at hand, along with vaccine hesitancy, “could force my hand into it.”

“For as long as you are here [in the Philippines] and you are a human being, and can carry
the virus, magpabakuna ka. Otherwise, I will order all the barangay captains to have a tally of the people who refuse to be vaccinated. Kasi ‘pag hindi, ‘yong Ivermectin na para sa baboy ang ipatira ko sa iyo. Ayon patay talaga pati ikaw,” he said.

In May 2020, the Social Weather Stations found in a survey that willingness for vaccination is “1/3 yes, 1/3 unsure and 1/3 no.”
