President Rodrigo Duterte has placed Cebu City back on enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) until June 30, following the recommendation of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases.

As of June 13, Cebu has tallied 3,434 Covid-19 cases, with 1,858 recoveries and 37 deaths.

Despite the 54.10 percent recovery rate in the city, Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella appealed for the city’s shift back to ECQ, the strictest lockdown that bans most economic activity, Palace spokesman Harry Roque said in his press briefing Monday.

Roque said the increasing number of new cases and widespread community transmission in majority of barangays in the city, as well as consistent case doubling time of less than seven days and significant increase in critical care utilization against critical care capacity, were the reasons Cebu City was placed back on ECQ.

Talisay City in Cebu Province will also return to stricter quarantine measures, modified ECQ, until June 30.
