President Rodrigo Duterte wants courier service J&T Express probed over multiple reports of parcels being mishandled.
“I am not condemning you now. I am also not insinuating that you are also liable or doing it, [but] it would depend greatly on the result of the investigation,” Duterte said in his televised address.
Duterte said he had ordered the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to look into J&T Express’ operations. He said he had also directed the Bureau of Internal Revenue to look into the company’s finances.
A video of J&T Express employees carelessly throwing packages in a truck recently made the rounds in social media, with some suggesting that the company should instead be named “Juggle & Throw Express.”
J&T Express in a now-deleted statement regarding the video said the case had been resolved and users should not believe such “malicious posts.”
The firm released another statement, saying the conduct shown in the viral video was an isolated case and employees in the video would face sanctions.
“We would like to reiterate that we do not tolerate such acts and behavior, and we humbly take responsibility for this incident,” it said.
Multiple customers have since revealed in social media that they received broken or replaced cargo.
“Because of so many complaints, I will close you down. Sigurado ‘yan. Isasara talaga kita, whether you like it or not, after the CIDG and the NBI would finish their investigation and would point a liability sa inyo,” Duterte warned.
“If I am satisfied na medyo may kalokohan, sisirain ko kayo. And I will file charges, also,” he added. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
