President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday said Filipinos should adhere to his policies against the Covid-19 pandemic since they voted for him.

“Sundin lang ninyo ako tutal binoto ninyo akong presidente. Milyon-milyon ang nag-like sa akin, ika nga. So ito ano lang ito, it’s an advice I’m giving you because I love you as a Filipino,” he said.

Duterte made the statement as he reminded Filipinos to mask up and wear face shields whenever they went out.

Duterte also called on unvaccinated individuals to stay at home as a “suggestion.”

“‘Yung mga tao na walang bakuna, my suggestion is do not go out of the house until there is a facility where you can go to, to have your vaccines,” he said.

Earlier on Monday, the Palace denied that it was Duterte’s fault that Filipinos flocked to vaccination centers before the Metro Manila enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) took effect.

Duterte previously said the country should have a law punishing unvaccinated individuals roaming around, and ordered authorities to keep these individuals within their residences.

The country has administered nearly 24.48 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines as of Aug. 9.

Some 13 million Filipinos have received their first doses while 11,391,969 have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19. John Ezekiel J. Hirro
