President Rodrigo Duterte has given his approval on the use of saliva-based Covid-19 tests in the country due to its high accuracy and painless administration.

Sen. Richard Gordon earlier said that saliva-based tests were less expensive, faster and 99-percent effective.

Duterte in a televised address on Monday gave his nod to the painless testing procedure.

I have to open my mouth wide. Oh eh ‘di iyan na ang gagamitin natin,” he said.

According to Gordon, the Health Technology Assessment Council has yet to recommend the use of saliva-based tests.

“It’s taking them a long time, Oct. 17 pa sinubmit ‘yan at ginagamit na din ‘yan sa ibang bansa… Over one million Covid testing has been done using that, at 99.9% ang accuracy,” he earlier said.

John Ezekiel J. Hirro
